Transformers Titans Return - Triggerhappy 1

He’s the last in this trio of reviews, but Triggerhappy was the first out of the blocks, long before Misfire and Slugslinger were even visible online. With an intriguing transformation sequence, classic paint scheme and an awesome alternate mode Triggerhappy quickly became the must-have figure of his release wave.

Infact such is his popularity that many fans rank him as the best of the deluxes, and if not numero uno then at least within the top three. Even when he reached shelf saturation he didn’t stay put for long, unlike the Twinfernos and Breakaways of the world.

Like his siblings Triggerhappy is rendered in a primarily two-tone colour scheme, mainly royal blue and a whiteish grey. His torso, forearms, lower legs and wings are all rendered in the blue, while his upper arms, thighs, feet and fighter mode cannons are all moulded in the whiteish grey.

Triggerhappy sports more paint apps than the other two, with light gold panels running down either side of his torso, and lighter blue accents on his tail wings. The jet boosters on his shoulders are coloured in a heavier gold hue, and his faceplate is a wonderfully vibrant red that really stands out.

More paint apps mean less tampographs, and Triggerhappy only has three – a lone, plain white Decepticon logo on his chest, and two traditional purple and silver Decepticon logos on his wings.

If there is criticism to level at him it’s that his foldaway forearm blasters tend to get in the way sometimes, and that his shoulders have a limited degree of articulation, due to the limitations imposed by his transformation.

Where Triggerhappy differs from his LegBros is his transformation – while Misfire and Slugslinger shared the same key design points Triggerhappy takes a different route. His hands fold away as per usual, but more as to allow the big cannons to swing into place. His arms unlock from the torso on a long boom piece which swings all the way back so that the gold boosters are at the back of the fighter mode.

While the other two had swing down hips Triggerhappy actually has a spinning waist, which allows his torso to face the right way so that his legs can lock in behind it.  His two grey blaster rifles can be attached to the underside of either wing. Lock everything into place with the appropriate tabs and you’re done!

Finally his little Titanmaster hops into the cockpit to take over piloting duties. For those wishing to display Triggerhappy in fighter mode the is an appropriate port midway along the underside of his body (Gundam stands using a peg adaptor work very well).

Should you buy Triggerhappy? Yes – he remains the standout figure of his wave, and looks great in either mode. You can still find the odd one loitering in a BigW, TRU, Kmart or Target, so get out there and nab one ASAP.
